Theists: How did you start believing in the word of god without being skeptical at first?

I understand you firmly believe in god and that the bible is the word of god but I can't figure out how why you were never skeptical of it? We aren't born believers in god, we are born a clean sleight... when we decide on something big such as which house to buy, which car to buy or which college to go to, we're always somewhat or extremely skeptical. I think our position on religion falls into the same boat as a house, a car or a college. How did you skip being skeptical, how did you skip that step? Maybe you "just know" that it's the word of god, but that doesn't answer why you weren't at least a LITTLE skeptic towards the belief in a supreme being.
